The Nyeri Mudavadi market operators have declined to pay the municipal council garbage collection fee due to the negligence of the municipal council to collect garbage from the area.
The operators with their bitterness declared that they would not pay the fee unless the council acted on their responsibilities. This was the decree that moved the council to take action today in the morning where they went to collect the garbage that had been lying on the ground for more than three weeks.
Speaking to Mr. Kirimi who is the market vice chairperson, he said that the market operators have always been on time to pay their wages.
Kirimi added that despite them going to the council to take their claims, they have always been silenced with empty promises that were never meant to be. It has always been hide and seek game with the council.
He noted that the market should always be cleared of the garbage on daily services as when the garbage accumulates, they pose a danger on the residents’ health. Asking them to renovate the market has always landed into deaf ears which has now promoted these operators into taking action. The claims are said to have reached the area MP who also promised to take action.
Kirimi said now that the budget had considered the counties to at least set aside some amount to be allocated on the renovation of the market noting that this is a place with food stuffs.
The raging crowd said that the businesses near the area are deteriorating by the day as customers are not wishing to go near the place due to the foul smell emanating from there.
