Nyahururu, May 16 – World Olympic Marathon Champion Samuel Kamau Wanjiru has died after falling off a balcony at his Nyahururu home. Police document says the athlete fell from his 2nd floor house after a domestic quarrel together along with his partner.
Nyandarua County OCPD Jasper Ombati said the deceased returned home last evening at around 11:00 p.m. in the company of a girlfriend & when his partner Trizah Njeri Kamau enquired who the woman was, a heated quarrel ensued in the work of the incident.
The partner run away from their their master bedroom & as her husband run after her, they locked the stair-case door prompting Wanjiru to look for an an alternative way out before her partner escape from their home compound.
Wanjiru proceeded to the balcony & jumped from the house to meet up together along with his partner.Regrettably he badly fell on the cemented floor & sustained serious head injuries.According to the OCPD, The officers who were called replied immediately & took him to the Nyahururu district hospital where he succumbed to injuries.They added that the an unindentified girlfriend has sinced been taken to the Nyahururu police station where she is being locked in while Kamaus partner & night watchman Stephen Maigua have recorded police statements & are also helping with investigations.
Wanjiru was scheduled to appear before a Nyahururu court on Monday next week for a case in which he is implicated with possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Last December, he was arrested at his home in Nyahururu & charged with threatening his partner, striking a security guard, & possessing an illegal AK-47 rifle.
Wanjiru was released on bail, & his partner later withdrew the charges against him, but they still faced the weapon's charge.In January, Wanjiru was also involved in a automobile accident on the Nairobi-Nyahururu road, rolling his 4-wheel drive vehicle several times trying to avoid an oncoming van.
