Kenyan consumers will pay KSh98 for a litre of super petrol in Nairobi in a new pricing schedule released by the Energy Regulatory Commission on Monday.
In Nakuru, a litre of the commodity will sell for Sh99, while consumers in Kisumu and Eldoret will pay KSh100.
The new prices will be in play for the next 30 days as prescribed under the Energy Regulations 2010-Petroleum Pricing.
“During the month of January 2011, the international prices of crude oil and refined petroleum products continued on an upward trend, which started in July 2010,” said Mr Kaburu Mwirichia, director general of the commission in a statement.
Diesel under the new regime will sell at KSh91.72 per litre in Nairobi while pump stations in Nakuru, Kisumu and Eldoret will sell it at KSh92.78, KSh93.92 and KSh93.87 respectively.
Among the issues that have impacted on the international oil prices include the political instability being experienced in North Africa. As a result, pricing of the free on board price for Murban crude oil lifted in January 2011 went up by four per cent.
“When the impacts of the above changes are incorporated in the formula for calculating the maximum retail pump prices the overall effect is an increase of between KSh0.94 and KSh3per litre, for the products under review, from the prices published last month,” said Mr Kaburu.
