There are so many things that go on in my mind when am in a coffee house, all dressed up, waiting for her to walk in, the looks I get from people, ladies asking ‘may I join you’, then I lookup and say nonchalantly,
‘Sorry, seats’ taken’
Then she says ‘Oh!’
Twenty mins later, my milkshake glass is half full, and the seat across from me is still empty. Seems shes not coming after all.
The pretty lady who served me looks at me with a sorry look across her eyes as she brings me my bill in a brown leather cased pouch.
The lady who wanted to ‘Join’ me is still seated alone near the door, I look at her as I walk out of the restaurant, smile briefly, and she smiles back – she knows. Yep she does.
I walk out into the night. Oh well. Better luck next time!
I am a one in ten. A number on a list. No one knows I exist. Nobody knows it but am always there. Its a statistical reminder of a world that doesn’t care.
