As employment opportunities slimes drastically by the day, it appears as though trophies will be awarded to those who think on their feet!
Young people absorbing the notion of gaining access to government premises as they try to scramble for the limited vacancies available is a concept that is sporadically dwindling .Gone are the days when many young people looked up to the government for the creation of jobs. With the new dispensation in ourplace, the county governments have played a crucial role in provision of jobs as well as narture and tutor young entrepreneurial minds in our country.
At the heart of Nyeri,I sauntered across the ground floor of long single filed corridor of the three storey magnificent Peak Business Centre that leads me to ‘Cupcakes Lingerie’, a branded name for a small enterprise in Nyeri that specializes in the sale of innerwear. Though lofty the space is limited enough, though that aside, I’m certainly spell bound as i can’t help as my eyes feast on the well displayed brands of coloured hue underwears well displayed in pursuit of their users. It’s four o’clock in the evening and the small establishment is fully packed with lots of clients as the busy rounds of activities are on going in bit to beat the day’s deadline order as well as to see to it that the provision of services offered are satisfactory.
Being a valentine’s day festivity, trying to divert the attention of Nancy Wangechi Njomo, the proprietor of the small enterprise almost proved futile until she yielded to my persistence . Gone are the days when the sale of inner wears was a discreet piece of business. At only 25,Nancy manages the small business of which she takes pride in running. Drawing her inspiration from her marriage Nancy believes that spicing up her marriage bore the idea of venturing into the business.Having not able to raise fees for her college education ,Nancy perused through a variety of jobs and finally landed on the sale of what she describes as ‘sexy inner cosmetics’, a business that she established through the means of her close friends who believed in the delivery of her vision. In the selection of her clientele, Nancy has suitable brands to all as the pricing is affordable.
She underscores the importance of what she terms as ‘thinking out of the box’ as she activates her words into practical examples, being valentines day she has a long list of clients who have placed their valentines’day order and have entrusted her to deliver to their recipients a duty that she does dutifully. ‘Doing extra activities especially delivery of gifts during special festivities is a way of injecting an extra shilling into my account and I happly do it’ say the enthusiastic yet demur Nancy. She however challenges the county government to help young people who have smouldering ideas that can explode into viable positive business opportunities by offering capital and help them through drafting of business ideas and then allocate funds that will help upgrade their businesses.
As each day dawns and dusks, cupcakes lingerie blooms and offer a wake up call to young people to dare be unadventurous as opportunities always exists and need to be put into constructive use.
