Its not because Kenyans have more cars than they need. No…..in my opinion, I think the planning of the cities roads is to blame. Add the impatient kenyan drivers we have evolved to become, and the way we love leaving dent mark on other car as a sign of our competence. Or lack of it thereof.
Take for instance in Nairobi’s City Mortuary Roundabout. You have Mbagathi Way which is a 2 lane road on either side but turns into a three lane road as you approach the roundabout. It drains traffic onto Ngong road, a single lane road, the road leading into Hurlingham past Daystar University, a two lane highway, and onto Ngong road leading into Kenyatta Hospital a two lane highway.
There are traffic lights at this roundabout that Kenyans choose to ignore, leaving traffic cops to man the roundabout. If it decides to rain, the traffic cops go to fetch umbrellas and don’t come back.Or take Landhies Road that starts as a two lane highway from Jogoo road and somehow morphs into a 3 lane highway in the middle then back to two lanes
