Nov 30, 2015 THE HIGHLAND TATTLER Featured, Features 1
Last Saturday , as I was taking in the sites from Nairobi heading to the Aberdare Country Club for some “Me time” I did notice a few things please allow me to share with you, my County mates.
The road from Nairobi to Nyeri is fantastic and a joy to ride. Then, the nightmarish, pathetic condition of the road from turn off from Nyeri –Nyahururu to the Aberdare Country Club. The road works started “awhile back” to be kind, one year ago and left unfinished resulting in scary mud (hippo happy) pools. Am not sure how I passed through the pot holed waterlogged road
( thanking God) but I truly feel for the residents who have no choice but to go through this nightmare twice a day especially when it rains. The alternative they have been given is equally poor and next door believe it or not, a live site with a mountain of murram and stationery construction trucks bearing the name Aegis. Hello, can somebody call someone to tell the engineer to sort out that patch. I understand it could be a financial or a priority issue but am also aware that the Nyeri County Government is all about the comfort of its residents, lets be fair. Thanks to those who will rescue those oppressed road users.
The rains and bad road did not dampen my exploring spirit and I continued to have a great time at the Aberdare Country Club. This little gem nestling on the hillside is a great getaway with great facilities for the discerning wary traveller, families and of course the much needed tourists. The food is greatly chosen and presented by Chef Anuj with his Dream Team, try out the Breaded Nile Perch, my mouth waters at mere thought. The rooms are comfortably appointed with fireplaces reminiscent of the colonial days of sheer abandon in luxury. The friendly and supportive staff who call you by your name from the Security guard at the main gate to the room attendant!! The General Manager, Richard personally checks on you throughout your stay not to mention that all staff are great PR ambassadors to ACC.
The 9 hole golf course with its local residents and maintenance Team i.e., the zebras, warthogs, antelopes and bucks makes for a great easy game as the gallery. At a distance don’t be surprised to see the elongated necks of giraffe families nipping leisurely with such elegance at the acacia trees, this truly attests to Tina Quick’s book “Rhinos in the Rough”
By the way, the ACC has a star, the Peacock, always strutting his stuff this one, posing for the ardent and fascinated photographers, displaying and sprucing his plumes to the click of the cameras. The gardens are another story, the rich heritage of days gone-by lovingly handed down to the current Team of gardeners; it’s a treat for the green fingered ones.
Before I pen off, let me tell you about the Aberdare Country Club Ayurveda Retreat & Spa. This is one of a kind facility in the region and one that should not be ignored. The Facility includes a gym, steam and Sauna and treatment rooms and a heated swimming pool. They also have a resident Ayurveda Therapist, Rajesh. With his fantastic Team Rajesh will engage you in different 5000 year old Indian rituals of massage aimed at healing and restoration of your inner self. This is a must experience for All of us who have gotten sidetracked by the word BUSY.
Take time out to treat yourself, your loved ones and friends to some good fun it’s the best gift for the Season. ACC offers you that great opportunity to rekindle your romance, a special place to propose to your loved one, invest in some “Me Time” or just reconnect with your life’s Alumni. While am not advertising for Aberdare Country Club, there is nothing like a shared experience, trust me I know. Gamedrives into the sanctuary, horse riding, hikes, visits to the Ark and the Salient, bush lunches and dinners, so much to do while there. Go on.. live alittle!!
There was a lot of rain but what a great time it was.
That’s enough feed for now till next time. Take care of yourself and others, best gift ever…..
